Shaper Machine Modification

Modification  of clapper box for shaper machine

Introduction

A single point cutting tool is held in the tool holder which is rigidly held in the tool holder, which is mounted on the ram.The work piece is rigidly held in a vice or clamped directly on the table, the table may be supported at the outer end.The ram reciprocate and thus cutting tool held in tool holder move forward and backward over the work piece. In a standard shaper cutting of material takes place during the forward stroke of the ram the backward stroke remains idle and cutting take place during thick stroke the feed is given to the workpiece and depth of cut is adjusted by moving the tool downwards towards the workpiece. This is obtained by "Quick Return Mechanism".

Operation
The work piece mounts on a rigid, box-shaped table in front of the machine. The height of the table can be adjusted to suit this work piece, and the table can traverse sideways underneath the reciprocating tool, which is mounted on the ram. Table motion may be controlled manually, but is usually advanced by an automatic feed mechanism acting on the feed screw. The ram slides back and forth above the work. At the front end of the ram is a vertical tool slide that may be adjusted to either side of the vertical plane along the stroke axis. This tool-slide holds the clapper box and tool post, from which the tool can be positioned to cut a straight, flat surface on the top of the work piece. The tool-slide permits feeding the tool downwards to deepen a cut. This adjustability, coupled with the use of specialized cutters and toolholders, enable the operator to cut internal and external gear tooth.

Problem Identification
Primary objective of machining operations is the efficient production of accurate parts. In case of shaping process particularly, significant research has focused on the ways to increase material removal rate without sacrificing work piece accuracy. In conventional shaping machines, the cutting action is performed by the tool only in the forward direction and return stroke is idle. The modified clapper box provides for cutting in the forward as well as in the return stroke thereby substantially increasing the cutting efficiency of the shaper machine. The modified clapper box ideally suited for roughing and finishing machining operation simultaneously.

Objective
·         Cutting in idle stroke.
·         Reduction in operation time.
·         Almost the double the productivity of the shaper machine.
·         Increase in efficiency and reduce machining time.
·         Suitable for existing single action shaper machines.

Hydraulic Press

How the hydraulic press works Since the hydraulic press works on the basis of Pascal's Law, its working is similar to the one of the hydraulic system. A hydraulic press consists of basic components used in a hydraulic system that includes the cylinder, pistons, the hydraulic pipes. The working of this press is very simple. The system comprises of two cylinders, the fluid (usually oil) is poured in the cylinder having a small diameter. This cylinder is known as the slave cylinder. The piston in this cylinder is pushed so that it compresses the fluid in it that flows through a pipe into the larger cylinder. The larger cylinder is known as the master cylinder. The pressure is exerted on the larger cylinder and the piston in the master cylinder pushes the fluid back to the original cylinder. The force applied on the fluids by the smaller cylinder results in a larger force when pushed in the master cylinder. The hydraulic press is mostly used for industrial purposes where a l...

Design of Plate Heat Exchanger

Abstract A plate heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger that uses metal plates to transfer heat between two fluids. This has a major advantage over a conventional heat exchanger in that the fluids are exposed to a much larger surface area because the fluids spread out over the plates. This facilitates the transfer of heat, and greatly increases the speed of the temperature change. The plate heat exchanger (PHE) is a specialized design well suited to transferring heat between medium- and low-pressure fluids. Welded, semi-welded and brazed heat exchangers are used for heat exchange between high-pressure fluids or where a more compact product is required. The hot fluid flows in one direction in alternating chambers while the cold fluid flows in true countercurrent flow in the other alternating chambers. The heat transfer surface consists of a number of thin corrugated plates pressed out of a high grade metal. The pressed pattern on each plate surface induces turbulence and mini...
